The Honda K24 might be the most versatile four-cylinder Honda ever built — but "K24" covers a family of engines with real differences in heads, VTEC systems and power output. Buy the wrong variant and you're chasing wiring gremlins and mounts you didn't budget for. Here's the straight version, from a shop that imports and compression-tests these engines every month.
K24A (JDM Accord/Odyssey spec): The workhorse. In Japan this engine powered the Accord, Odyssey and CR-V with a single-stage i-VTEC head focused on economy and torque. It is the direct JDM replacement for the USDM K24A4/K24A8 found in the 2003–2007 Accord and Element. If your daily driver threw a rod or burned oil, this is the engine you want — low-mileage, plentiful and affordable.
K24A2 (TSX spec / RBB head): The performance variant of the family. The 2004–2008 Acura TSX ran a higher-compression K24 with the RBB cylinder head, true 3-lobe i-VTEC on the intake side, stronger valve springs and a rev ceiling the economy heads can't match. The JDM equivalent — often listed as K24A with RBB-1/RBB-2 head from the Japanese-market Accord 24S — is the budget king for swap builders who want torque with real top-end. We stock these when containers land; check the K-Series collection.
K24Z (2008–2015): The later generation — K24Z2/Z3 in the 2008–2012 Accord, K24Z7 in the 2012–2015 Civic Si. Revised block, different intake manifold orientation and drive-by-wire throttle. Great as a direct replacement for those chassis; more work as a retrofit into older cars because of the electronics.
Replacing a blown engine in a 2003–2007 Accord or Element: JDM K24A. Bolt-in job, reuse your intake manifold and sensors where applicable, and you're back on the road for a fraction of a rebuild.
Budget performance swap (EG/EK Civic, Integra, EF): K24A with the RBB head, or a K24 block with a K20 head — the classic "Frankenstein" build. The K24's extra displacement makes streetable torque no K20 matches at the same dollar figure.
2008+ chassis replacement: Match your generation — K24Z for K24Z cars. Mixing generations means throttle body, manifold and harness headaches.
Ask for compression numbers — not "it ran great," actual documented numbers per cylinder. Ask whether the photo is the actual unit or a stock image. Ask what's included: manifold, coil packs, injectors, alternator. At JDM Alliance every K24 is compression-tested, auction-graded and photographed as the exact engine that ships — browse current Honda inventory or call/text (469) 570-4113 with your chassis and we'll match the right variant.
Before the engine goes in: replace the rear main seal, valve cover gasket, thermostat and water pump while access is easy. Swap your known-good sensors over where connectors differ. Fresh oil, drain the old fuel if the car sat, and prime the oil system before first start. Every engine we ship includes start-up warranty coverage — 90 days on replacement engines — so break it in right and keep your receipts.
JDM Alliance LLC has imported engines directly from Japan since 2013. Dallas warehouse with local pickup, free crated freight nationwide, next-day to Houston, Austin, San Antonio and OKC.
