Why buy a JDM 2AZ-FE instead of rebuilding yours?

Two problems kill 2AZ-FE engines in the US, and both are cheaper to solve with a low-mileage import than a rebuild. The first is stripped head bolt threads in the aluminium block — a known issue on 2007–2009 units that Toyota addressed with a service campaign and coarser bolts. The second is oil consumption from piston ring design on 2AZ-FE engines in the 2007–2011 range.

JDM units come out of vehicles that were retired from Japanese roads at low mileage — typically well under 60,000 miles — because of Japan's shaken inspection cycle, not because the engine failed. That is the whole reason this market exists.

Note that the 2AZ-FE (port injection) and the 2AZ-FXE (Atkinson cycle, hybrid Camry and Highlander) are not interchangeable. Check which one your VIN calls for before ordering; call us if you are not sure.

What you receive

Engines are sold as a long block with the accessories shown in the listing photos. You will need to reuse your existing wiring, ECU and intake unless the listing states otherwise. Every unit is compression tested and its serial number is recorded against the listing — we send you photos and the serial before it ships, and you approve before it leaves the warehouse.

Replacement engines carry a start-up warranty of up to 90 days. Take local pickup at our Dallas, TX warehouse at 10203 Corkwood Rd, or crated freight anywhere in the lower 48. Local customers: we can usually have a 2AZ-FE ready for pickup the same week.
