The K20A is Honda's 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder — the engine that defined the front-wheel-drive performance Honda era. From a straightforward replacement for a base RSX to a genuine Type R unit for a build, JDM Alliance imports K20A engines directly from Japan and stocks them at our Dallas warehouse for local pickup or crated freight nationwide.

Standard-output JDM K20A units are the counterpart of the USDM K20A3 used in the 2002–2006 Acura RSX (base) and 2002–2005 Civic Si (EP3), and they make a direct low-mileage replacement for those cars. We also import the high-compression K20A Type R spec from the DC5 Integra Type R, EP3 Civic Type R and Accord Euro R — the JDM equivalent of the K20A2/K20Z1 class but with hotter cams and higher compression, which makes it a popular upgrade for RSX-S owners and K-swap builds. Our units typically run 45,000–70,000 miles, documented from the auction sheet.
Each engine is sold as a long-block assembly: block, head, valvetrain, oil pan and timing components. Depending on your application you may need to transfer or source separately: intake manifold, exhaust manifold, wiring harness, ECU, sensors, and accessories (alternator, power steering, A/C) plus mounting hardware. The engine in the photos is the actual unit you receive, and we confirm the serial with you before it ships.
Every K20A is compression-tested, its auction grade is documented, and it is photographed as the actual unit. Standard replacement K20A engines carry our 90-day start-up warranty; Type R and other performance/upgrade units carry a 30-day warranty plus a 30-day return window. Both start the day the engine arrives.
K20A pricing varies with mileage, spec and container timing — Type R units command more than base engines. Check the current listings below for live pricing, with free local pickup in Dallas and flat-zone crated freight to the lower 48. If nothing is in stock today, call or text (469) 570-4113 and we'll reserve one off the next arrival.
Before first start-up: replace the valve cover, oil pan and rear main seals while the engine is out, inspect the timing chain tensioner and water pump, and fill with fresh oil and coolant. Type R engines want a tune matched to their compression and cams — don't run one on a base-model map. Have a certified mechanic handle the install — it's also a warranty condition — and change the oil again after the first 500 miles.
A standard K20A bolts to your USDM transmission and runs on your existing ECU and harness with your US manifolds and accessories. A Type R unit also bolts up, but its cams and compression call for proper ECU tuning to run right.
Typically 45,000–70,000 miles. Japanese vehicle inspection costs push cars out of service early, which is why JDM engines average far lower mileage than US junkyard pulls.
90 days on standard replacement units; 30 days plus a 30-day return window on Type R and other performance/upgrade units. Coverage starts the day the engine arrives, and claims go to warranty@jdmallianceusa.com with your invoice, installer certification and compression readings.
